Statement from Minister Anandasangaree marking 50 years of Modern Treaties in Canada with Indigenous leaders and governments at Land Claims Agreements Coalition Conference

The Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, Gary Anandasangaree, issued the following statement today: “I was honoured to join Modern Treaty partners at this week’s Land Claims Agreements Coalition Conference, commemorating 50 years since the signing of the first Modern Treaty in Canada. We are proud of the progress we’ve made with Modern Treaty partners, creating new foundations for the revitalization of Indigenous self-governance, built on their unique identities and cultures. This anniversary is an opportunity for all people to learn about Modern Treaties and reflect on our shared journey towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

Minister Sajjan and Parliamentary Secretary Romanado to host the 2025 Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award Ceremony

The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, along with Sherry Romanado, Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness, will present awards to over 100 distinguished recipients who have demonstrated exemplary service in the emergency management field, in one of four categories; Resilient Communities, Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Management, Youth, and Search and Rescue.

Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Government of Canada announces partnership with Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières for new specialized graduate diploma (DESS) in conference interpretation

Today, Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Translation Bureau and the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) announced a new partnership to create a specialized graduate diploma (DESS) in conference interpretation. This new two-year program, offered entirely online, will be launched in the fall of 2025.
