Today, the Honourable Rachel Bendayan, Minister of Official Languages and Associate Minister of Public Safety, announced the prohibition of an additional 179 unique makes and models of assault-style firearms as well as new measures that aim to keep people safe from intimate partner violence involving a firearm.

This 2025 prohibition includes semi-automatic firearms with sustained rapid-fire capability (tactical/military design with large capacity magazine) that are not suitable for hunting or sport shooting, and exceed safe civilian use.
