Government of Canada invests in Indigenous fisheries opportunities across BC

The Government of Canada is committed to a renewed relationship with Indigenous Peoples based on the recognition of rights, respect, cooperation and partnership. Delivering on this commitment, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Joyce Murray today announced investments of $11.8 million that will support First Nations commercial fisheries enterprises for the benefit of Indigenous communities under the Pacific Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative (PICFI).

Government of Canada invests $11.8 million in Indigenous fisheries - Opportunities in BC

Through the Pacific Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative (PICFI), the Government of Canada is investing $11.8 million to support First Nations commercial fisheries enterprises for the benefit of Indigenous communities across British Columbia. These PICFI investments support new business and training opportunities and increased fisheries access for 31 Indigenous commercial fisheries companies representing 117 First Nations. PICFI is co-developed, co-designed and co-delivered in collaboration with Indigenous partners.

Canada Invests in Deep Energy Retrofits for Residential Units 

Today, Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced an investment of more than $4.4 million to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) to enable energy efficiency in the residential sector in municipalities across Canada.

Government of Canada signs new COVID-19 antibody therapy agreement

Today the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, announced that the government has signed a new conditional agreement with AstraZeneca for 100,000 doses of its antibody therapy, Evusheld, for the prevention (pre-exposure prophylaxis) of COVID-19. The antibody therapy is under review by Health Canada for use in specific high-risk patient populations, such as people who are immunocompromised. Health Canada is currently prioritizing the review of all COVID-19 vaccines and drugs.

Minister Sajjan to travel to UN headquarters to participate in debate on universal vaccination

Nearly $900,000 to support launch of beSpline

The governments of Canada and Quebec and Investissement Québec are granting a total of $882,500 in financial assistance to beSpline to acquire and adapt production equipment. Located in Sherbrooke in the Estrie region, this new branch of the IND Group offers composite panel moulding and curving services. This project, valued at nearly $1.8 million, will enable it to become the first business to use an adaptive moulding process in North America.
