Backgrounder: Ontario’s 2021‒22 federal Canada Community-Building Fund allocations and top-up amounts

The Government of Canada is providing more than $850 million through the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) for 646 recipients across Ontario. In addition, the government is providing over $816 million as a top-up, calculated based on 2020-21 CCBF allocations for the following 443 municipalities and 203 local road boards.

To help maintain a strong workforce and better position our country for a prosperous economic recovery, the Government of Canada is investing in the skilled trades to ensure that Canadians have the training they need to access good, well-paying jobs. The Government is making targeted investments, so that key groups facing barriers—such as women, newcomers, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and Black and racialized Canadians—can better find work in the skilled trades through projects led by unions and their partner organizations.

Government of Canada launches third phase of CanCode Program targeting 3 million training opportunities for youth

Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, launched the third phase of CanCode and highlighted an $80-million federal investment in the program. CanCode 3.0 is seeking applications for projects that will provide students from kindergarten to grade 12 with the opportunity to learn the in-demand digital skills that will prepare them for future jobs. The program also aims to provide 120,000 teachers with training opportunities so they can incorporate new digital skills and technologies into their classrooms.

Sudbury Airport Development Corporation is receiving $3.5M from federal government to maintain regional connectivity and jobs

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, and Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced more than $3.5 million in financial support for the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation (SACDC). This non-repayable contribution will help mitigate the financial pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the operations of the Sudbury airport for a one-year period. The project is expected to help maintain 27 local jobs.

New EV Chargers Coming to Ontario
