Three Newfoundland and Labrador hunters fined $15,000 for offences under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994

On June 24, 2021, Paul Lushman, Bud Durnford, and Brian Durnford, from Francois, Newfoundland and Labrador, were each sentenced to pay $5,000 after having pleaded guilty on May 10, 2021, to one charge each under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, in the Stephenville Provincial Court, Newfoundland and Labrador. The three hunters were charged with possessing migratory birds without the necessary authorization. The total amount of the fines will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund. In addition to the fines, the three are prohibited from applying for, using, or possessing a migratory game bird hunting permit for a period of one year.

Government of Canada announces new Natural Infrastructure Fund

Today, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities was joined by John Tory, Mayor of Toronto, to announce a new, $200 million Natural Infrastructure Fund. Under this new program, the first of its kind at the federal level, up to $120 million will be invested in large natural infrastructure projects. The new program will support projects that use natural or hybrid approaches to protect the natural environment, support healthy and resilient communities, contribute to economic growth, and improve access to nature for Canadians.

Increasing openness and transparency through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program

Today, The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities announced another step in our commitment to Open, Transparent and Accountable Government, fulfilling a mandate commitment to Ensure that Canadians have access to accurate and timely information about infrastructure investments in their communities. Starting June 25, Infrastructure Canada will publish on its website the project funding applications it receives from provinces and territories (PT) under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. Information is updated on a weekly basis when project lists are received from PTs.

Gaétan Ménard has been a full-time member of the Canada Industrial Relations Board since 2014. Mr. Ménard has close to 30 years of experience as a prominent union representative for the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP), and in 2006 became the youngest national officer in the CEP’s history. As Co-Chair of the Proposal Committee, he oversaw the merger between the Canadian Auto Workers union and the CEP to form Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union, on August 31, 2013.

Canada and Manitoba invest in a new $73-million wastewater system in Winkler and Stanley area to increase capacity and support current and future development

Today, representatives from the governments of Canada and Manitoba announced funding for Phase 1 upgrades to the regional wastewater treatment system in the City of Winkler and the Rural Municipality of Stanley. Government of Canada invests nearly $16 million to bring high-speed Internet to 7,511 more homes in rural Ontario

Government of Canada invests to bring high-speed Internet to over 85 more homes in Bloomingdale

Today, Tim Louis, Member of Parliament for Kitchener–Conestoga, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, announced over $640,000 in federal funding for Avetria Wireless to bring high-speed Internet to residents of Bloomingdale, Ontario. This project will connect over 85 underserved households in the Waterloo region to high-speed Internet.
