The Government of Canada invests in Quebec’s fishing harbours

Coastal communities across Canada are supported by the Small Craft Harbours (SCH) Program, that provides the commercial fishing industry with safe access to waterways. With approximately 45,000 Canadians employed in the fishing industry, the Government of Canada is making investments to maintain its network of small craft harbours, and is working with municipalities and other stakeholders to ensure this important infrastructure energizes local communities.

Government of Canada launches public consultations on National Quantum Strategy

Thanks to a Budget 2021 commitment of $360 million to launch a National Quantum Strategy, the Government of Canada will build on previous investments in the sector to advance the emerging field of quantum technologies. The strategy will support a vibrant Canadian quantum industry and help build the workforce needed to solidify Canada’s global leadership in this growing sector. Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced the launch of public consultations on the National Quantum Strategy.

Government of Canada launches new program intake to help reduce the impacts of climate change and better protect Canadians against natural disasters

Today, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, launched a new intake for the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF). Communities across Canada are invited to submit projects that will protect and strengthen their communities by increasing their resilience to the socio-economic, cultural and environmental impacts of natural hazards and extreme weather events when considering current and potential future climate change impacts.

Government of Canada clarifies taxation for intergenerational transfers of small business shares  

Today, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, affirmed that Bill C-208 has been passed by Parliament, received Royal Assent, and has become a part of Canada’s Income Tax Act. The changes contained in this legislation now apply in law. This news release seeks to bring clarity to the government’s intentions going forward and replaces the June 30th news release on this subject.

Canada and Ontario invest over $9.4 million in the Woodland Cultural Centre

Government of Canada gives boost to the local dairy industry in the Eastern Townships and Centre-du-Québec

Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced investments totalling over $535,000 for three projects with Quebec dairy processors that will help boost production and capacity. Minister Bibeau made the announcement during visits to two of the dairy processors, emphasizing that the dairy industry is a vital part of the local rural economy, and the Government of Canada is investing so the dairy industry is well-positioned for sustainable future growth.
