Canada Invests in Smart Grid Technology in Alberta

Alberta energy companies fined $1.5 million for unlawful deposit of chlorinated water into North Saskatchewan River

On March 18, 2021, Gibson Energy ULC and GEP ULC (operating in partnership as Gibson Energy Partnership) were sentenced in the Provincial Court of Alberta and ordered to pay a total fine of $1.5 million. The companies were found guilty of two counts of violating the Fisheries Act. The fine will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund. In addition to the fine, the companies will be ordered to make a presentation to industry within Strathcona County about the danger of chlorinated water.

CRTC Broadband Fund second call: second round of selected projects

Today, the CRTC approved funding for seven transport projects from the CRTC Broadband Fund. Approximately 1,400 km of fibre transport networks will be built in northern Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia targeting 15 rural and remote communities representing almost 6,500 households, including five that are both Indigenous and official-language minority communities (OLMCs).

Government of Canada invests to transform Stratton Sales Barn into all-season agricultural hub for Northwestern Ontario  

Marcus Powlowski, Member of Parliament, Thunder Bay—Rainy River, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced an investment of nearly $830,000 to help more than 200 Northwestern Ontario farmers increase sales, expand their operations and create local jobs. Specifically, the FedNor funding will enable the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association to complete infrastructure upgrades and expand the Stratton Sales Barn. Once complete, this priority project will help increase service and annual cattle sales by more than 50 percent for farmers in the Rainy River, Kenora, and Thunder Bay Districts.
