Joint statement by the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion and Canada Employment Insurance Commission Commissioners

The Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough; the Canada Employment Insurance Commission’s (CEIC) Commissioner for Workers, Pierre Laliberté; and the CEIC’s Commissioner for Employers, Nancy Healey, issued the statement below today on the launch of consultations on modernizing the Employment Insurance program. The online survey will open on Monday, August 9, 2021, at canada.ca/ei-consultations. The survey is scheduled to run until Friday, October 8, 2021

The Forks Renewal Corporation brings clean energy to downtown Winnipeg buildings with support from the Government of Canada

Today, the Honourable Daniel Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announced that the Forks Renewal Corporation is receiving approximately $1.8 million to build a district geothermal system that will provide heating and cooling to its buildings in downtown Winnipeg. The Forks Renewal Corporation is also contributing close to $2.7 million to this project.

Government of Canada supports Francophone organizations, entrepreneurs and communities to stimulate economic growth and recovery in Northern Ontario

Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, today announced a Government of Canada investment of more than $2.4 million to support four strategic projects to maximize economic opportunities and create jobs in official-language minority communities (OLMCs). This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor, and the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

Government of Canada investments to support economic development, growth and recovery efforts of Francophone communities in Northern Ontario

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, and Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, today announced an investment of more than $2.4 million to support four strategic initiatives led by Francophone organizations in Northern Ontario. The funded projects are expected to support up to 52 businesses, create or maintain up to 149 jobs, and maximize opportunities for development and growth throughout the region.

Canada Strengthens Nuclear Collaboration with Romania

Annick Goulet, Canada’s Ambassador to Romania, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources; the Honourable Florin Cîțu, Romania’s Prime Minister; and the Honourable Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Romania’s Minister of Energy, today signed an agreement committing the two countries to strengthening cooperation on nuclear energy, including collaboration on CANDU refurbishments and new build projects in Romania.
