Investment to help Canada’s aluminum industry eliminate its carbon footprint

Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced a $20-million investment in ELYSIS Limited Partnership, a joint venture launched in 2018 by Alcoa and Rio Tinto. This investment supports a $644-million project from ELYSIS, including significant investments in research and development. ELYSIS will directly employ 100 people through this project, and it has the potential to create more than 1,000 jobs by 2030, while securing 10,500 existing aluminum jobs in Canada. Furthermore, a total of 10 co-op students will work under this initiative.

Backgrounder: Canada and Ontario invest more than $51.2 million in municipal infrastructure to respond to the impacts of COVID-19 in Southwestern, Midwestern and Central Ontario

The Government of Canada is investing more than $40.9 million towards these projects through the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Ontario is contributing over $10.2 million to the projects.

Government of Canada invests over $620,000 to bring high-speed Internet to 146 more homes in Navan, Vars and Blackburn Hamlet, Ontario

Today, Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Member of Parliament for Orléans, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, announced over $620,000 in federal funding for Rogers to bring high-speed Internet to residents of rural Ontario. This project will connect 146 underserved households in Navan, Vars and Blackburn Hamlet to high-speed Internet.

Government of Canada helping expand access to safer supply across Canada 

Today, on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, Peter Fragiskatos, Member of Parliament, announced nearly $1 million for a project that will help support and build capacity in communities across Canada to provide safer supply services. This initiative will help increase access to pharmaceutical alternatives to the toxic illegal drug supply and prevent overdoses.

Canada and Alberta announce two broadband and wireless projects in Indigenous communities

Today, the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative for the Prairies, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development and Prasad Panda, Alberta’s Minister of Infrastructure, announced more than $2.9 million in funding for two broadband and wireless projects in Indigenous communities. The projects are funded under the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Backgrounder: Canada and British Columbia investments in local infrastructure help build community connections for people in Metro Vancouver

The Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia are investing close to $4 million in the five projects noted below through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s new COVID-19 Community Resilience stream. Canada is contributing over $3 million, and B.C. is contributing more than $794,000. Federal funding is conditional on fulfilling all requirements regarding consultations with Indigenous groups.
