The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Quebec Lieutenant, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, and Luc Provençal, Member of the National Assembly for Beauce-Nord, are pleased to announce financial assistance of $2,473,100 for the construction of a new building to house the Sainte-Marie municipal library.

Government of Canada Launches Call for Proposals for Critical Mineral Development

Today during National Mining Week, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, announced a call for proposals for the Critical Minerals Research, Development and Demonstration Program (CMRDD). This component of the program will provide $10.95 million in funding for pilot plants and projects to support the development of critical mineral value chains. This funding is part of the $47.7M initiative announced in Budget 2021 for federal research and development to advance critical battery mineral processing and refining expertise.

Update on Trans Mountain Expansion Project

On February 18, 2022, the federal government provided an update on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. With 50 per cent of the pipeline already built and the project significantly de-risked, the federal government announced that no additional public money will be spent on the project and Trans Mountain Corporation would secure the funding necessary to complete the project with third-party financing.

Assault of an inmate at Kent institution

On May 3, 2022, an inmate was assaulted at Kent Institution, a maximum security federal institution. Staff responded quickly to resolve the incident. The injured inmate was evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment. The inmate has since returned to the institution.

Government of Canada Strengthens Access to Abortion Services

Today the Minister of Health, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, and the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, announced more than $3.5 million in funding for projects by Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights (Action Canada) and by the National Abortion Federation Canada (NAF Canada), coming out of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund. These projects will improve access by removing barriers to vital abortion services and offer accurate reproductive health information to Canadians.

Today, the Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspésie—Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the Honorable Diane Lebouthillier, on behalf of the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honorable Dominic LeBlanc, and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Côte-Nord and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine Regions, Mr. Jonatan Julien, on behalf of the Minister for Education and Minister Responsible for Status of Women, Ms. Isabelle Charest, announced funding of $76,531 for the addition of a dehumidifier at the New Carlisle Citizen’s Centre.

Improving Access to Abortion Services and Information under the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund

Budget 2021 committed $45 million over three years, starting in 2021-22, to improve access to a full range of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care support, information, and services―including abortion services—for people in Canada who face the greatest barriers to access. Health Canada’s SRH Fund was created to support a wide range of evidence-informed and innovative projects for underserved people in Canada who are at increased risk for poorer SRH outcomes, such as LGBTQ2 individuals, Indigenous and racialized people, women and youth.
