Geoffroi Montpetit becomes administrator of International Organisation of La Francophonie
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nadine Girault, Quebec’s Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration, today congratulated Geoffroi Montpetit on becoming administrator of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) to support Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the IOF. The date of Mr. Montpetit’s entry into office will be decided shortly.

Quebec excavation company sentenced for violating Species at Risk Act by destroying nests of threatened bank swallows
On February 18, 2021, in Granby courthouse, Pete Persons Terre Sable & Gravier Inc. was sentenced and fined a total of $15,000 after pleading guilty to two offences under the Species at Risk Act. The fine will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund.

More than 300 households in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier now have access to high-speed Internet
Thanks to a combined investment of close to $365,000 from the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec and Bell, 326 households in the municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier now have better access to high-speed Internet. Completion of the construction of fibre-optic backbone networks means that the community of Valcartier can now benefit from quality Internet service at a reasonable price. This infrastructure project was carried out as part of a large intergovernmental initiative to provide connectivity to up to 24,000 households in 58 regions of Quebec.

Public Health Agency of Canada to begin COVID-19 testing at land borders on Monday
As of February 22, 2021, to meet day 1 arrival requirements, travellers entering Canada at land borders, unless exempt, will be required to take a test using a self-swab kit. This test can be taken either at the traveller’s quarantine location or at a border testing site.
