Statement on violence in Moura, Mali

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement: “Canada is very concerned by reports of hundreds of civilians killed and injured last week in the context of a counter-terrorism operation in the village of Moura, Mali. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the civilian victims. Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms this attack on civilians and any violations of international humanitarian law.

Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador Announce Intent to Expand the Mandate of Offshore Energy Regime to Support the Transition to a Clean Economy and Create Sustainable Jobs

Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, jointly announced their intention to facilitate the transition to a clean economy and create sustainable jobs by refreshing and expanding the mandate of the Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador offshore energy regime. Both governments also committed to expedite the elimination of subsidies for fossil fuels, including for the offshore energy sector.

FedNor invests more than $1.4 million to accelerate growth and enhance manufacturing in North Bay

The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced FedNor investments totaling $1,416,298 for two projects designed to fuel innovation and optimize business productivity. Funded through FedNor’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation Fund (REGI), these strategic initiatives are expected to create up to 19 local jobs in the short term, with the potential to create an additional 340 over the next five years.

Ottawa and Québec grant $4.7M to LOOP Mission to help optimize its production

The governments of Canada and Quebec are granting a total of $4.7 million in financial assistance to LOOP Mission, based in Boisbriand, in the Laurentides region. The business, which markets cold-pressed juices and smoothies as part of the circular economy, aims to purchase automated equipment for its manufacturing lines and adopt new processes to increase its production capacity and sustain an increase in demand. The project is valued at $11.2 million.
