Backgrounder - Canada imposes further sanctions against Iran

In 2010, the Canadian government established the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations (“Iran Regulations”) pursuant to the Special Economic Measures Act. In October 2022, Canada amended the Iran Regulations to include gross and systematic human rights violations and has since imposed a total of 20 rounds of sanctions, including today’s announcement.

Government of Canada launches commercial fishery pilot to help control European Green Crab in Southwest New Brunswick

The European Green Crab is an aquatic invasive species in Canada that upsets the balance of our marine ecosystems. In Southwest New Brunswick, European Green Crab negatively impacts native species and habitats like eel grass, dulse beds and shellfish, which are culturally, ecologically and economically important to the area. Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) collaborates with harvesters, Indigenous communities and other partners to detect, monitor and limit the spread and damage of this aquatic invasive species.

On December 15, 2025, the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, announced that over $10.6 million from the Environmental Damages Fund will be distributed to 23 projects that will focus on restoring or improving the natural environment and improving environmental quality, as well as for research and development leading to restoration.
