Minister Wilkinson, Minister Blair, Minister Hajdu and Partners to Provide Update on Wildfire Season

VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources; the Honourable Bill Blair, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness; and the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, will provide an update on federal support measures for this year’s wildfire season at HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve in Vancouver, British Columbia.They will be joined by the Honourable Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor-General, and Deputy Premier; the First Nations Emergency Services Society; the First Nations Health Council; the First Nations Leadership Council; the Honourable Bryan May, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence; and the Honourable Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre.A media availability will follow.

Canada’s stabilization projects in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia

On May 11, 2022, Global Affairs Canada announced $46.5 million in funding for 15 projects in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. These projects, funded through the Peace and Stabilization Operations Program and the Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Program, are aligned with the civilian lines of effort of the Global Coalition against Daesh.

Additional funding for settlement services in the Prairies

Case management is a comprehensive approach to settle government-assisted refugees and other high-needs and vulnerable newcomers facing multiple and complex barriers to integrate. This can include victims of gender-based violence, disadvantaged youth, and LGBTQ2 individuals. It is typically provided during a client’s first 12 to 18 months in Canada. The approach generally involves a comprehensive needs and assets assessment and settlement plan, regular monitoring of progress and check-ins at set intervals, as well as personalized and intensive supports based on each client’s needs.

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec Announce Nearly $2.5 Million for Sainte-Marie’s Municipal Library 

The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Quebec Lieutenant, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, and Luc Provençal, Member of the National Assembly for Beauce-Nord, are pleased to announce financial assistance of $2,473,100 for the construction of a new building to house the Sainte-Marie municipal library.

Government of Canada Launches Call for Proposals for Critical Mineral Development

Today during National Mining Week, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, announced a call for proposals for the Critical Minerals Research, Development and Demonstration Program (CMRDD). This component of the program will provide $10.95 million in funding for pilot plants and projects to support the development of critical mineral value chains. This funding is part of the $47.7M initiative announced in Budget 2021 for federal research and development to advance critical battery mineral processing and refining expertise.
