Drugs for Rare Diseases – Nova Scotia Agreement

Today, the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia signed the National Strategy for Drugs for Rare Disease (DRD) agreement to invest over $39 million over three years to improve access to new drugs for rare diseases for Nova Scotia residents and to support enhanced access to existing drugs, early diagnosis, and screening for rare diseases.

Tribunal Initiates Inquiry—Polyethylene terephthalate from China and Pakistan

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today initiated a preliminary injury inquiry into a complaint by Compagnie Alpek Polyester Canada, of Montréal-Est, Quebec, that it has suffered injury as a result of the dumping and subsidizing of polyethylene terephthalate from the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The Tribunal’s inquiry is conducted pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) as a result of the initiation of a dumping and subsidizing investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Canada and Quebec Invest in Sustainable Wood Construction

Today, the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity, Parks Canada and Quebec Lieutenant, along with the Minister of Natural Resources and Forests of Quebec, Maïté Blanchette Vézina, announced a joint contribution of over $8.5 million for four projects that will promote green construction in Quebec, including the use of low-carbon Canadian wood to accelerate new building projects. The Government of Canada is investing more than $4.7 million, while the Government of Quebec is contributing $3.83 million.

Protecting the Chignecto Isthmus against climate change

The governments of Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are collectively moving forward to protect the Chignecto Isthmus from the increasingly destructive impacts of climate change. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia commit to paying $162.5 million each for a total of $325 million to support the project (valued at $650 million). This is a major step towards ensuring the security of this important link.
