CRTC approves with conditions Rogers’ acquisition of Shaw’s broadcasting services

Today, the CRTC approved Rogers’ acquisition of Shaw’s broadcasting services, subject to a number of conditions and modifications. The CRTC has also set out several safeguards to ensure that the transaction benefits Canadians and the Canadian broadcasting system. As part of this transaction, Rogers is acquiring 16 cable services based in Western Canada, a national satellite television service and other broadcast and television services. This approval only deals with the broadcasting elements of the transaction.

Five Country Ministerial Statement on the Second Anniversary of the Launch of the “Voluntary Principles to Counter Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse”

In March 2020 the Five Country Ministerial (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States) launched the Voluntary Principles to Counter Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, in consultation with six technology companies, and the WeProtect Global Alliance. Since then, G7 Interior Ministers have added their support, and a total of sixteen companies have endorsed the Principles. The goal of the Principles is “the prevention of child sexual exploitation and abuse.”

Canada announces support for worldwide efforts to end the global TB epidemic

Last year, more than four million people globally with TB diagnoses were missed by health services, fueling preventable deaths.

Government of Canada and Government of Newfoundland and Labrador invest over $22 million to bring high-speed Internet to more than 1,000 households in Labrador

Today, Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development, announced $22,355,503 in funding to bring high-speed Internet to more than 1,000 households in rural areas in Labrador. Funding will be allocated to the Nunatsiavut Government for a project benefiting the communities of Rigolet, Postville, Makkovik, Nain, Hopedale and Natuashish. The network will be built and operated by Bell Canada.
