Polar icebreakers and the National Shipbuilding Strategy
The Arctic region’s remoteness and extreme weather conditions present significant challenges to carrying out Coast Guard operations year-round. The acquisition of two new Polar icebreakers will enable the Coast Guard to operate in the Canadian Arctic throughout the year to fulfill Government of Canada missions in support of Indigenous Peoples and other northerners, Arctic sovereignty and security, high Arctic research, and to help respond to emergency situations.
New Electric Vehicle Chargers Coming to Saanich
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Member of Parliament for North Vancouver, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, today announced a $110,000 investment to the District of Saanich to install 22 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers at municipally owned sites.

The Government of Canada is investing more than $21.2 million in 55 projects under the new COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Saskatchewan is contributing over $16.4 million. Contributions by recipients toward their respective projects are $12.5 million. In total, this represents a combined infrastructure investment of more than $50.2 million. Funding recipients are responsible for any additional project costs.
