Importing dogs to Canada: Government introduces new import rules for commercial dogs less than 8 months old

Following a review of existing import requirements, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing changes for commercial dogs under 8 months of age that are imported for breeding and resale end uses (which includes adoption) to improve compliance with humane transport and animal health requirements.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and commercial prawn fishery industry work in partnership to ensure ‘tubbing’ can continue for the 2021 season 

Today, the Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, confirmed her support for an interim protocol that would allow harvesters to freeze their catch, a process commonly known as “tubbing.” This Protocol, developed by the Pacific Prawn Fishermen’s Association will help prawn harvesters ensure that their catch, including catch frozen in tubs, is readily available for inspection by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Fishery Officers and legally available for sale.

New public transit and active transportation infrastructure in Banff and Cold Lake, Alberta

Today, the Honourable Jim Carr, the Government of Canada’s Special Representative for the Prairies, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Ric McIver, Alberta’s Minister of Transportation and Municipal Affairs, announced funding for the construction of a pedestrian-cyclist bridge in Banff and the addition of a low-floor bus to the City of Cold Lake’s fleet. These projects will increase accessibility and encourage sustainable modes of transportation.

$112 million to provide high-speed Internet access to more than 18,000 households in the Outaouais region by September 2022

Thanks to a joint investment of $81.36 million made as part of Canada–Quebec Operation High Speed, 18,200 households in the Outaouais region will have access to high-speed Internet services by September 2022. The projects, totalling $112.09 million, will be implemented by Cogeco and Xplornet.

Government of Canada reports price reductions for data plans although more progress is needed

Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced the publication of the latest quarter wireless pricing data on 2 GB to 6 GB data plans. After more than a year of tracking, the latest data show a majority of these data plans across Canada have seen price declines between 9 and 25 percent compared to benchmark prices collected in early 2020.

Government of Canada continues unprecedented investments for economic recovery, business growth and job creation in Northern Ontario

Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedNor, highlighted the positive impact Budget 2021 will have on Northern Ontario’s economy. Specifically, the Minister referred to measures outlined in the Budget such as making FedNor a standalone agency, as well as a commitment of more than $2.4 billion nationally for programs to be delivered by Canada’s RDAs. FedNor will be delivering Northern Ontario’s share of this funding.
