Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will provide $1.5 million to support 41 projects (including 26 new projects) by archives, libraries and documentary heritage institutions throughout Canada. Four projects submitted by organizations from Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon will be funded under the Documenary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP).

Federal government and province commit to shovel ready Hamilton Light Rail Transit project from McMaster to Eastgate at Centennial Park

Today the Honourable Catherine McKenna, federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas, and Caroline Mulroney, Ontario Minister of Transportation announced that both governments have signed a deal to invest nearly $3.4 billion in the shovel-ready Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. Each government is contributing 50% of eligible project costs, up to $1.7 billion. The federal contribution has been designated for LRT investment only, and is subject to approval by the Treasury Board of Canada. The project’s life cycle costs will be covered by the Government of Ontario.

Pathway to permanent residence for in-Canada families of Canadian victims of air disasters ET302 and PS752

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has put in place a new public policy facilitating permanent residence application for in-Canada families of victims of air disasters involving Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 (ET302) and Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 (PS752). The public policy came into effect on May 12, 2021, and will remain in place until May 11, 2022.
