Spring Icebreaking on the Saguenay River

The Canadian Coast Guard advises residents and visitors along the Saguenay Fjord that the CCGS Des Groseilliers will begin spring icebreaking operations as early as March 15, 2021. The date is subject to change with no notice, as activities could begin before or after that period, depending on operational requirements or weather conditions.

Invasive Mussels found in Moss Ball products in Canada

As one of the six prohibited species under the federal Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations, Zebra Mussels are one of the biggest aquatic invasive threats in Canada. Once established, these invasive mussels multiply quickly and can harm Canada’s aquatic ecosystems by altering food webs, damaging habitats, and out-competing native species for food. They also have the potential to cause substantial, costly damage by clogging intake structures in power stations and water treatment plants as well as damaging watercrafts.

Government of Canada supports cleaner, healthier classrooms across Ontario by reinvesting carbon pollution pricing revenues

Today, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, announced that the federal government will provide approximately $40.8 million through the Climate Action Incentive Fund to upgrade 162 schools in Ontario to be more energy efficient. Energy-efficient schools will support better indoor air quality, leading to better health outcomes for Ontario students and educators, particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Energy-efficient buildings also pollute less and help schools save on energy costs while fighting climate change.

Canada supports energy efficiency projects in Ontario schools

On June 25, 2019, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change announced the Municipalities, Universities, Schools, and Hospitals (MUSH) Retrofit stream of the Climate Action Incentive Fund. Funding from 2019-20 carbon pollution pricing proceeds (approximately $60 million) focuses on schools, with approximately $40.8 million allocated for Ontario.

In partnership with First Nations, more than 100 long-term drinking water advisories have now been lifted since 2015

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Indigenous Services, congratulated Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum, Ontario, on the lifting of the last remaining long-term drinking water advisory in their community. The advisory had been in effect since 2012, and the lifting of this last advisory means improved access to clean water for the majority of residents in the community.
