The Governments of Canada and Quebec Invest in Eight Recreational and Sports Projects in the Centre-du-Québec Region

Today, Élisabeth Brière, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, announced funding of nearly $11 million for eight projects in the Centre-du-Québec Region. They were joined by André Lamontagne, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Minister Responsible for the Centre-du-Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches Regions and MNA for Johnson; Sébastien Schneeberger, Deputy Government House Leader and MNA for Drummond–Bois-Francs; Daniel Pelletier, City of Drummondville Councillor for District 11; and Denise Picotin, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Centre communautaire de loisirs Claude-Nault. With this funding, the region's residents will have access to modern and safe facilities that will promote an active, healthy and inclusive lifestyle.

FedDev Ontario’s supports recovery of southwestern Ontario’s tourism sector

With a $1.2-million investment, Southwest Ontario Tourism Corporation (SWOTC) is providing non-repayable contributions of up to $20,000 to local tourism-oriented businesses. These contributions are supporting costs associated with adapting and eventually reopening, such as space renovations and retrofits, purchase of equipment, fixtures and personal protective equipment, as well as support for technology and digitization. This project, in partnership with Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, Tourism Sarnia Lambton, Middlesex County Economic Development and Tourism London. When complete, is expected to support more than 100 businesses and maintain 320 jobs.

CRTC sets final wholesale rates for broadband services

Today, the CRTC set the final rates to access the large companies’ high-speed broadband networks and resolved a long-standing dispute with respect to the existing wholesale model. This will enable the industry to move towards a new wholesale model that will increase competition and investments. This new model is intended to provide Canadians with more choice, better prices and innovative services.

In 2015, the CRTC concluded that sustainable competition was required for access to the large companies’ high-speed broadband networks. To achieve this goal, the CRTC decided that the large companies should also be required to give competitors access to their fibre-to-the-home networks under a wholesale model known as disaggregated high-speed access (HSA) service.
