Government of Canada and Community Foundations of Canada announce first project approved under the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative

Today, Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Halifax, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, joined Andrea Dicks, President of Community Foundations of Canada, and Mary W. Rowe, President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute, to announce $95,000 in funding from the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative for the expansion of March of Dimes Canada’s Hi, Tech! program. Also in attendance were Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, and Len Baker, President and CEO of March of Dimes Canada.

Backgrounder: Government of Canada supporting youth employment in Eastern Townships agriculture sector

In May 2020, the Government of Canada enhanced the Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) with an investment of up to $9.2 million to assist employers in hiring Canadian youth for jobs in the agriculture sector. Since then, nearly 1,000 jobs were created in 2020 across Canada, including 34 jobs for young people in the Eastern Township region, in Quebec.

Government of Canada helps employers create accessible and inclusive workplaces for employees with disabilities

The Government of Canada remains committed to building a more inclusive and accessible Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. One way to strengthen Canada’s workforce and economic recovery is to address the challenges experienced by persons with disabilities in securing gainful employment. To help improve workplace accessibility and access to jobs, the Government of Canada introduced the National Workplace Accessibility Stream under the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities.
