Governments of Canada and Ontario invest up to $24 million to bring high-speed Internet to up to 1,180 rural households

Today, Irek Kusmierczyk, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development, along with Bob Bailey, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sarnia–Lambton, on behalf of the Honourable Kinga Surma, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, announced up to $24 million in funding to bring high-speed Internet to up to 1,180 households in rural Ontario. These communities include areas near Brooke-Alvinston, Inwood, Oakdale, Oil City, Oil Springs, Pelee Island, Wheatley Harbour, Elmdale, rural areas near Tilbury, Birr, Clandeboye, Denfield and Lucan.

CRTC Broadband Fund second call: projects selected in March 2022

The CRTC has approved funding for seven high-quality projects through the CRTC Broadband Fund. These projects will either introduce mobile wireless services or improve broadband Internet access services for approximately 1,255 households in 10 communities, including seven Indigenous communities, in British Columbia and Alberta.

Canada and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke move forward on new multi-use cultural space

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Crown−Indigenous Relations, and Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer announced funding for the construction of a new cultural centre, museum and theatre. The funding provided through the Cultural Spaces in Indigenous Communities Program will help the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke establish this cultural space and multi-purpose building within their community. The new cultural centre will serve as a safe space for community members to share traditional knowledge and culture through a variety of programs, including language revitalization, where Mohawk language speakers will mentor new learners.

Government of Canada Helps Protect Canadians With Earthquake Early Warning System

Today, Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources; along with Jennifer Rice, British Columbia Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness; and Mark Collins, President and CEO for BC Ferries, announced that Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has installed the first of hundreds of sensors for the national Early Earthquake Warning (EEW) system.

Tribunal Initiates Expiry Review—Concrete Reinforcing Bar from Belarus, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal and Spain

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today initiated an expiry review of its finding made on May 3, 2017, in inquiry NQ-2016-003, to determine if the expiry of the finding is likely to lead to continued or resumed dumping of concrete reinforcing bar from the Republic of Belarus, the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (excluding those goods exported by Feng Hsin Steel Co., Ltd.), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Portuguese Republic and the Kingdom of Spain, and is likely to result in injury.
