The homebuilding and construction sectors are crucial to addressing the need for housing and increasing the number of homes available in southern Ontario. The Government of Canada is investing in local manufacturers who are coming up with Canadian-led solutions to build more homes faster. These efforts help us respond more quickly to housing demands, build homes more efficiently, and make sure Canadians have access to affordable housing. These efforts are closely aligned with the goals of Canada’s Housing Plan, a historic plan to ensure all Canadians have access to housing.

Ten innovative homebuilding and construction manufacturers in southern Ontario scale up with Government of Canada investment

Today, the Honourable Ruby Sahota, Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced a combined repayable investment of nearly $19 million for 10 manufacturers in the homebuilding and construction sectors to expand production capabilities and adopt new equipment.

2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs are a driving force in Canada’s economy, with over 100,000 2SLGBTQI+-owned businesses employing more than 435,000 Canadians and generating over $22 billion in economic activity. Yet, they continue to face systemic barriers in starting and growing their businesses. In response to these challenges, the federal government worked with the 2SLGBTQI+ community to co-create Canada’s first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program to foster an inclusive, diverse and resilient economy.
