Vietnam agrees to zoning arrangement to allow for safe trade from Canada in the event of an African swine fever outbreak

Today, Canada's Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Mary Jane Ireland, announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Vietnam Food Administration have agreed to an African swine fever (ASF) zoning arrangement to allow for the safe trade of swine products from disease-free zones in Canada in the event of an ASF outbreak.

Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements for federally regulated transportation employees and travellers

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that, as of October 30, the Government of Canada will require employers in the federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation sectors to establish vaccination policies for their employees. Also effective October 30, travellers departing from Canadian airports, and travellers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, will be required to be fully vaccinated in order to travel.

Backgrounder: COVID-19 vaccine requirement for the federal workforce

Under a new policy, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration (CPA), including members and reservists of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), must be vaccinated against COVID-19. The requirement for employees to be vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely, or on-site. Contracted personnel who require access to federal government worksites will also need to be vaccinated.
