OTTAWA — The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, and Scott Pearce, second Vice-President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Mayor of the Township of Gore, will make a virtual announcement to support sustainable communities across Quebec. In Budget 2021, the government proposed the introduction of a tax on the sale of new luxury cars and aircraft with a retail sale price over $100,000, and new boats over $250,000. The tax would be calculated at the lesser of 20 per cent of the value above these price thresholds or 10 per cent of the full value of the luxury vehicle, aircraft or vessel.

One of the most effective ways to fight climate change is to power our communities, buildings and homes with clean electricity. Atlantic Canada is already leading the way with a solid path to cleaner forms of non-emitting and renewable energy. Governments across the region have put in place policy measures that have led utilities to make significant investments to move to clean power and interconnect their electricity systems. Building on this progress, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources; the Honourable Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia; the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Honourable Mike Holland, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development, Government of New Brunswick, today unveiled a collective Atlantic Canadian vision for an interconnected clean power grid that would serve as the foundation for a competitive, electrified economy across the Atlantic region. This is a shared commitment to keeping our air clean while powering people’s lives with affordable, reliable electricity.

Today, on behalf of the Hon. Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, the Hon. Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board, alongside Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre, announced that the application portal for the Downtown Ottawa Business Relief Fund will open on March 15, 2022. This announcement builds on the $20 million Government of Canada investment, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), to support local businesses who suffered losses due to the illegal blockades.

The final funding amount for each project will be determined through the negotiation of a Contribution Agreement.

Parks Canada to make an announcement to support greater access to green spaces in the larger Edmonton region

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – The Minister of Transport, the Honourable Omar Alghabra, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Deborah Flint, will announce new funding to help the airport recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and to support continued air services and important transportation infrastructure projects at the airport.

Upgrades will help open new markets for the Saint John company

These FedNor investments are helping to bring youth and organizations together for a period of one year, giving them the tools and resources they need to play an active role in the recovery, rebuilding and re-energizing of the region’s economy.
