Statement from Minister Duclos on the Auditor General of Canada’s performance audit on enforcement of quarantine and COVID-19 test orders

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, issued the following statement today after the tabling of the report by the Auditor General of Canada on the July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, performance audit on the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) enforcement of mandatory quarantine and testing measures for travellers, to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Canada.

Canada announces financial contributions to partners through its Volunteer Cooperation Program

In addition to increasing the participation of Canadians in international development, the Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) contributes to the economic and social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and most vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, in developing countries. With a budget of almost $418 million, the VCP will fund 13 volunteer projects through 15 Canadian organizations, from 2020 to 2027.

Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson requests the Canada Revenue Agency improve the information it provides to those facing violence

Today, Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, François Boileau, announces that a service improvement request he made to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has been accepted. The request made was to improve the information it provides to those facing domestic violence, including those accessing the Canada child benefit (CCB).

Health researchers across Canada launch projects to mitigate impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on children, youth and families

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the lives of families in Canada. Children have been impacted by many changes to their routines, environments, and activities, including online schooling, food insecurity, increased poverty, missed routine vaccinations and healthcare appointments, less access to mental health supports, and lack of access to trusted adults and caregivers, such as teachers and grandparents. Parents and families have been impacted by shifts to remote work, job losses, caregiving for family members, lockdowns and restrictions on sports and social activities. To fully support the recovery of families, we need more information on the impact of the pandemic on them, and we need to identify programs that have proven effective in supporting the needs of children, youth, and parents.

Minister Fraser welcomes home Afghan refugees arriving today

As a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which is a major contributor to international peace and security, Canada is taking a lead role in ensuring that NATO is able to resettle all its Afghan staff who were evacuated. As part of the commitment to welcome Afghan refugees, the government is resettling up to 472 NATO-identified locally engaged staff and their family members.
