Government of Canada Invests close to $134 million to Support Canadians Living and Working in Long-Term Care in British Columbia

Today, Terry Beech, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (B.C.), on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, announced an agreement with British Columbia to provide it with close to $134 million for Safe Long-term Care.

Backgrounder: Canada and Saskatchewan invest to upgrade drinking water and wastewater infrastructure

The Government of Canada is investing more than $12.7 million in 4 projects under the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Saskatchewan is contributing over $10.8 million. Contributions by recipients toward their respective projects are $7.7 million. In total, this represents a combined infrastructure investment of more than $31.3 million. Funding recipients are responsible for any additional project costs.

Canada and British Columbia support Tseshaht First Nation to locate and commemorate their missing children from former residential schools

The location and confirmation of unmarked graves of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children at former residential school sites across Canada are tragic reminders of the mistreatment of Indigenous children. As part of efforts to address historical wrongs and the lasting physical, emotional, mental and spiritual harms, the Government of Canada and Government of British Columbia are supporting Tseshaht First Nation as they embark on the difficult work of honouring the missing children who attended the Alberni Indian Resident School.

New EV Chargers Coming to Ontario

Today, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, announced a $99,900 investment to ERTH Corp to install 21 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the province to put Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future. ERTH Corp is also contributing $236,946 toward this initiative, bringing the total project cost to $336,846.

Statement on the 100th commemoration of Treaty No. 11

This summer marks the 100th commemoration of Treaty No. 11, a historic agreement between the Government of Canada and representatives of the Gwich’in, Sahtu, Dehcho and Tłı̨chǫ Peoples in the Northwest Territories. Adhesions to the Treaty took place in July 1922, as Treaty Commissioner H.A. Conroy travelled to the various communities.
