Government of Canada announces funding for Indigenous communities to purchase marine equipment and advance training opportunities in British Columbia

Transport Canada’s Marine Safety Equipment and Training (MSET) Initiative provides funding to Indigenous communities along the Trans Mountain Expansion Project marine shipping route to purchase marine safety equipment and provide training to community members. It is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to listen, engage, and work with Indigenous communities to respond to marine safety concerns.

Government extending support for mineral exploration in Canada

Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs, that the federal government proposes to extend the 15 per cent Mineral Exploration Tax Credit for investors in flow-through shares for an additional two years, until March 31, 2027.

Spring icebreaking on the Saguenay River

The Canadian Coast Guard’s annual spring icebreaking operations on the Saguenay Fjord will start as early as Monday, March 10, 2025, with the CCGS Amundsen in the area. All equipment and material currently on the ice must be moved ashore before midnight on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Canadian soldier of the Second World War identified

The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have confirmed the identification of a previously unknown Second World War soldier’s grave in Holten Canadian War Cemetery, the Netherlands, as that of Private Arthur Vanance. The identity was confirmed through historical and archival research.
