Government of Canada invests in training to help Canadians in Woodbridge, Ontario become certified in the skilled trades

In order to help maintain a strong workforce and better position our country for a prosperous economic recovery, the Government of Canada is investing in the skilled trades to ensure that Canadians have the training they need to access good, well-paying jobs. The Government is making targeted investments, so that key groups facing barriers—such as women, newcomers, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and Black and racialized Canadians—can better find work in the skilled trades through projects led by unions and their partner organizations.

FedDev Ontario investment helps North York-based fabricator expand into next-generation telecommunications and 5G markets

Today, Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (FedDev Ontario and Official Languages), announced a FedDev Ontario repayable contribution of nearly $850,000 for Candor Industries Inc. (Candor), to scale up and expand operations and create 15 highly-skilled jobs.

$3.45 million to bring high-speed Internet to 600 households in the Minganie RCM by September 2022

Thanks to a total investment of $3.45 million, made as part of Canada–Quebec Operation High Speed, 600 households in the Minganie RCM will have access to TELUS high-speed Internet services by September 2022. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine; the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Quebec Lieutenant, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Honoré-Mercier; Jonatan Julien, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Minister Responsible for the Côte-Nord Region and for the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine Region, and Member of the National Assembly for Charlesbourg; Gilles Bélanger, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier of Quebec (high-speed Internet) and Member of the National Assembly for Orford; and Marie-Christine D’Amours, Vice-President, Consumer Solutions and Customer Experience in Quebec, TELUS.

Canada and Ontario invest in new Indigenous Cultural Centre at Algoma University

Today, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; Terry Sheehan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (FedNor) and Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie; the Honourable Ross Romano, Minister of Colleges and Universities and Member of Provincial Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Laurie Scott, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure; and Asima Vezina, President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University announced joint funding for a new Indigenous Cultural Centre at Algoma University.

National Research Council of Canada announces funding support for Canada-UK collaboration projects focussed on sustainable agriculture

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is pleased to announce that 7 Canadian firms have been approved to pursue collaborative projects with UK partners through the Canada-UK industrial research and development call for proposals delivered by the NRC and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The successful projects are focussed on improving productivity and sustainability in the agricultural industry, including crop, livestock, and/or aquaculture systems using precision and data-driven solutions.

Health Canada authorizes more flexible storage conditions for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

On May 19, 2021, Health Canada authorized a submission from Pfizer-BioNTech to allow its COVID-19 vaccine to be stored at regular refrigerated temperatures (2-8°C) at the point of use for up to one month. The vaccine was first authorized with a recommended storage temperature of between -80°C to -60°C (-112°F to -76°F). Thawed undiluted vials could only be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. On March 3, 2021, Health Canada authorized a change to enable storage at -25°C to -15°C (13°F to 5°F) for up to 2 weeks. This latest change will support additional flexibility in vaccine distribution.
