New EV Chargers Coming to Ontario

Today, as part of #EVWeekinCanada, Han Dong, Member of Parliament for Don Valley North, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, announced a $350,000 investment to Seneca College and to Petro-Canada, a Suncor business, to install seven EV fast chargers across Ontario to put Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future.

Government of Canada investment supports recovery of Niagara Region tourism sector

Immigration Ministers focus on long-term planning for a more responsive and collaborative immigration system

The Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI) met virtually today to discuss the future of immigration in Canada as the country looks towards growth and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the pandemic created some disruptions to Canada’s immigration system, Ministers in attendance had an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned and to reaffirm their commitment to a federal-provincial/territorial (FPT) relationship that supports timely and meaningful partnership and collaboration.

Government of Canada announces the country’s first-ever federal strategy and fund dedicated to building active transportation trails and pathways

Today, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, joined Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Halifax, Pam Damoff, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services and Member of Parliament for Oakville North—Burlington, James Maloney, Member of Parliament, Etobicoke—Lakeshore, Ontario, Denzil Minnan-Wong, Deputy Mayor for the City of Toronto and City Councillor for Ward 16, Don Valley East and Anders Swanson, Chair, Vélo Canada Bikes, Liz Scanlon, Director, Health Policy and Systems at Heart & Stroke and Nancy Lea Smith , Director for The Centre for Active Transportation, to release Canada's first National Active Transportation Strategy and to launch the Active Transportation Fund, which will invest $400 million over five years to help build new and expanded networks of pathways, bike lanes, trails and pedestrian bridges and undertake planning studies.

Letter from the Deputy Prime Minister to the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the IFRS Foundation

On July 23, 2021, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance sent the letter linked below, on behalf of the Government of Canada and a coalition of over 55 Canadian public and private institutions, to the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the IFRS Foundation. The letter expresses support for the proposed International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and invites the Board of Trustees to locate the ISSB headquarters in Canada.

Canada selected to co-lead work to build an international climate finance action plan ahead of COP26

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has accepted an invitation from UK COP26 President Alok Sharma to co-lead a process to further build trust that developed countries stand by their commitments and deliver on the US$100 billion climate finance goal through 2025. Minister Wilkinson and German State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth will lead the development of a plan in the lead-up to COP26 in collaboration with the COP Presidency.

New EV Chargers Coming to British Columbia

Today, as part of #EVWeekinCanada, the Honourable Joyce Murray, Minister of Digital Government and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, announced a combined investment of over $1,200,000 to support cities across British Columbia to make the shift toward cleaner fuels and the electrification of Canada’s light-duty vehicles.
